About Dean Hunter

Dean Hunter, Australia's premier marine and wildlife painter has built a well-known reputation for exceptional hand painted works of art.

Dean was born on the Gold Coast of Australia in 1970. His passion for art was exposed at the tender age of 10 when he first started drawing and painting, instantly cementing his lifelong love for the industry. Primarily painting the Australian countryside and colonial scenes, it wasn't long before he began to paint wildlife and later translating his love of marine life to canvases.

This culminated in his first exhibition of marine art in 1994, where SeaWorld on the Gold Coast purchased the collection, showcasing and supporting the local talent. The collection is still owned by SeaWorld and is proudly displayed in their galleries and restaurants to this day.

In more recent years, Dean's love of all animals and niche environments from all around the world has also translated into various ranges of powerful paintings. From stunning pieces of the African savannah to spectacular rainforest designs, striking images from the Arctic and even dazzling life-like portraits and conceptual art. Dean has never been shy to expand his horizons and portfolio.

Inspiration for his work comes from close contact with the dolphins, as well as the trademark light effects playing across the underwater landscape and creatures, the result of many hours of observation and study. This study carries over to his home where he has built up a saltwater aquarium. Dean Hunter's unique oceanic style continues to develop, making him Australia's premier marine and wildlife painter.
